“It has been the honor of my career to serve the residents of Washtenaw County,” Dill said.
“I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together over the years, but even more proud of the people who make this organization exceptional. Every success we’ve achieved has been possible because of the commitment and professionalism of County employees. I am grateful for their partnership and wish Derrick every success as he leads the County into its next chapter.”
The Board extends its sincere appreciation to Gregory Dill for his many years of dedicated service to Washtenaw County.
Dill helped lead the organization through some of the most significant challenges and opportunities in its history, including the COVID-19 pandemic, implementation of the American Rescue Plan Act, expansion of critical County services, and numerous strategic initiatives.
His leadership has helped position Washtenaw County as a nationally recognized local government committed to innovation, collaboration, and public service.
“Leadership transitions are defining moments for any organization, and our responsibility as a Board is to ensure Washtenaw County continues delivering the exceptional services our residents rely on every day,” said Commissioner and Board Chair Katie Scott, District 9.
“Derrick Jackson brings the experience, institutional knowledge, and collaborative leadership necessary to provide stability during this transition while we conduct a thoughtful and comprehensive search for our next permanent County Administrator.
“We are grateful for Gregory Dill's years of dedicated service to Washtenaw County and look forward to working alongside Derrick as we continue building on the County’s strong foundation.”
Jackson brings extensive experience within Washtenaw County government, deep institutional knowledge, and a demonstrated record of leadership across countywide initiatives.
He has worked closely with elected officials, department leaders, employees, and community partners to advance organizational priorities and improve services for residents.
The Board determined Jackson’s understanding of County operations, strong collaborative leadership style, and established relationships make him uniquely qualified to provide stability and continuity while a permanent search is conducted.
The Board emphasized the appointment of an Interim County Administrator allows the County to maintain momentum on critical initiatives while preserving the opportunity to conduct a thoughtful, transparent, and inclusive process to identify the County's next permanent executive leader.
The Board has directed the Human Resources Department to immediately begin the process of retaining an executive search firm to assist with developing recruitment profiles, conducting outreach, and supporting a comprehensive search for the County’s next permanent Administrator.
