Michigan attorneys report more than 36,000 hours of pro bono service
The State Bar of Michigan recently released its 2026 A Lawyer Helps Pro Bono Honor Roll in celebration of the attorneys and legal organizations helping to expand access to justice across Michigan.
More than 1,000 Michigan attorneys reported 36,416 hours of pro bono legal services for the 2026 Honor Roll, which recognizes service hours reported from 2025.
The honor roll recognizes individual attorneys, law firms, and corporations that support access-to-justice efforts by providing pro bono legal services to low-income individuals and families throughout Michigan.
Some attorneys submit their 2025 pro bono service hours for reporting purposes only and are not included in the published Honor Roll.
The Honor Roll highlights law firms and corporations that reported a per-attorney average of 30, 50, or 100+ hours of pro bono legal services as well as firms and corporations that provided at least 100 cumulative hours of services.
Attorneys are recognized in the honor roll if they report 30, 50, or 100+ hours of qualifying pro bono legal services.
Applications for the 2027 Honor Roll, which will recognize pro bono hours provided during the 2026 calendar year, will open in January 2027.

Annual MDTC Open Golf Tournament to be held Sept. 11
The Michigan Defense Trial Counsel will host its 30th Annual MDTC Open Golf Tournament on Friday, September 11, at Mystic Creek Golf Club and Banquet Center, 1 Champions Circle in Milford.
Clients, judges, and guests are welcome. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and shotgun start takes place at 9 a.m.
Golf will be played in modified scramble format. Singles/pairings are first come basis. There is no guarantee to golf with a judge unless accompanied by a judge. Golf registration fee includes greens fees, cart, lunch, dinner, and two drink tickets.
A portion of the proceeds will support First Tee-Greater Detroit, a youth development organization that helps young kids build strong character and confidence to navigate life’s challenges. By combining the game of golf with a structured life skills curriculum, it empowers participants with values and skills that last a lifetime.
The cost is $185 per lawyer and $205 per vendor by August 14, and $205 per lawyer and $225 per vendor after August 15. Judges can attend for free. All fees must be paid on or before day of golf.
