The American Constitution Society (ACS) Michigan Lawyer Chapter announces the reinvigoration of its statewide presence through the formation of a new Board of Directors. The new leadership brings together attorneys from across Michigan who are committed to democracy, justice, and a progressive vision of the Constitution.
Michigan is at a defining moment, with core democratic principles under strain and public institutions facing unprecedented pressure. The Michigan Lawyer Chapter is responding by rebuilding a strong, active, statewide community of progressive lawyers. This revitalization builds on the momentum growing throughout Michigan and channels it into concrete action: hosting regular events, connecting attorneys who share a progressive constitutional outlook, expanding mentorship opportunities, and helping young lawyers build networks to find jobs.
The new board is focused on creating a practical, engaged community. The chapter will convene progressive attorneys, provide spaces for collaboration and professional development, and strengthen the network of lawyers committed to defending the rule of law and expanding access to justice. Through expert-led events, social gatherings, and issue-driven discussions, the board aims to make ACS Michigan a central hub for progressive legal thought and community building.
“I am proud to belong to a group of lawyers from across the state who are committed to advancing progressive ideals in a way that strengthens our institutions and makes the Constitution accessible to all people,” said Jeff Turner, Vice President of the ACS Michigan Lawyer Chapter. “This board represents renewed energy and a shared belief that our legal community can be a powerful force for justice, learning, and connection.”
In the months ahead, the Michigan Lawyer Chapter will host a series of events designed to bring attorneys together and build momentum for this renewed chapter. The first gathering will be a kickoff happy hour in Detroit on September 10, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Batch Brewing Co. in Corktown. On October 22 at 6:00 p.m., the chapter will welcome Professor Leah Litman to Ann Arbor for a discussion on this year’s Supreme Court decisions. Additional events are being planned for Grand Rapids and Traverse City, and attorneys interested in attending or participating those gatherings are encouraged to email Sunita Doddamani.
