Notice of closure—Michigan Court of Appeals Troy office
Effective August 31, 2026, the Michigan Court of Appeals will permanently close its Clerk’s Office location in the Columbia Center at 201 West Big Beaver in Troy. Going forward the Troy staff handling the cases arising out of the Court’s Second District will merge with the Clerk’s Office facility located at Cadillac Place in Detroit at 3020 West Grand Boulevard. The Detroit office will thereafter handle the combined cases from the Court’s First and Second Districts. Reducing the Court’s footprint in this way will improve operational efficiency while saving the state over $450,000 each year in leasing costs. Michigan Chapter of ACS to hold networking event Sept. 10 in Detroit
The Michigan Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society (ACS) will hold a happy hour networking event on Thursday, Sept. 10 from 5-8 p.m. at Batch Brewing Company in Detroit’s Eastern Market, 1400 Porter Street.
“Help us reinvigorate our progressive legal network in Detroit and meet fellow lawyers and judges,” said Sunita Doddamani, a member of the ACS Michigan Executive Board.
The ACS Board brings together attorneys from across Michigan who are committed to democracy, justice, and a progressive vision of the Constitution.
On October 22 at 6 p.m., the chapter will welcome Professor Leah Litman to Ann Arbor for a discussion on this year’s Supreme Court decisions. Additional events are being planned for Grand Rapids and Traverse City, and attorneys interested in attending or participating in those gatherings are encouraged to email Sunita Doddamani at doddamanis@millerjohn son.com.
Symposium looks at ‘Oligarchy and the Rule of Law’
Wayne State University will present the Wayne Law Review symposium on “Oligarchy and the Rule of Law: Examining the Intersection of Power, Wealth, and Justice” from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, September 25, in Wayne Law’s Partrich Auditorium, 471 W. Palmer Ave. in Detroit.
During the symposium, panels will explore topics on banking and wealth inequality; labor and consumer rights; immigration and migrant justice; and authoritarianism.
