New guidebook on evidence now available to Michigan attorneys


The State Bar of Michigan is now offering the guidebook “Evidence 101: Quick Reference Guide for Michigan Attorneys” to help attorneys navigate common evidentiary issues. 

The guidebook is based on the current Michigan Rules of Evidence and provides practical advice relevance, foundation, authentication, hearsay, witness examination, objections, impeachment, expert testimony. 

It also provides an admissibility roadmap, pre-court evidence checklist, sample courtroom language, defines common terms, outlines the roles and responsibilities of attorneys (with citations), and shares potential impeachment tools.

‘Being Aware of the Tone of Your Writing’ focus of webinar Sept. 24


The Michigan Judicial Institute and the Friend of the Court Bureau will present a webinar on “Being Aware of the Tone of Your Writing” Thursday, September 24, from 9 to 10 a.m. via Zoom.

This session will help participants to become more aware of the tone in their writing. It will examine practical ways to improve it through word choice, punctuation, sentence structure, and other useful techniques. By the end, attendees will have clear, actionable steps to ensure their writing communicates the message—and the tone—that is intended.

Speaking at the webinar will be Thomas Myers, court analyst, Problem Solving Courts, Field Services, State Court Administrative Office, Michigan Supreme Court.

Section conducts ‘Annual Meeting & Seminar’


The Administrative & Regulatory Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will conduct its “Annual Meeting & Seminar” on Wednesday, September 23, at the International Banquet & Conference Center, 400 Monroe Street in Detroit.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and the the board member voting will take place from 2 to 3 p.m.  Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided for section members.
