Law school presents lecture on U.S. and Venezuela

Wayne State University Law School will present the lecture “Is the United States Occupying Venezuela?” on Thursday, October 8, from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. in DJK 2242 at the law school, 471 W. Palmer Ave. in Detroit.

What does international law say about the relationship between the United States and Venezuela? Marco Rubio has been described as the “Viceroy” of the country, passing on almost every major policy decision. In addition, the U.S. has taken a portion of Venezuelan oil revenue, thus exerting control over its most vital natural resource. Does this make the U.S. an occupying power under international law, subject to many limitations, including perhaps on diverting oil revenue?

Lunch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
