‘Persuasive Advocacy’ focus of Master Class at OCBA Oct. 20
The Oakland County Bar Association will present a professional development seminar on “Persuasive Advocacy: A Master Class in Motion Practice” Tuesday, October 20, from noon to 1 p.m. at the OCBA offices, 1760 S. Telegraph Road, Ste. 100, in Bloomfield Hills.
Effective motion practice can shape the trajectory of a case long before trial. This advanced program will focus on the art and strategy of persuasive advocacy in written and oral motion practice. Drawing on decades of courtroom experience, the panel will share practical techniques, strategic insights, and real-world examples to help attorneys craft more compelling arguments and achieve better results for their clients.
Speaking at the webinar will be Daniel D. Quick of Dickinson Wright PLLC and Maura Battersby of Flood Law.
This master class is designed for litigators of all experience levels seeking to elevate their advocacy skills, sharpen their persuasive writing and argument techniques, and gain a deeper understanding of what resonates most with judges.

Law school presents ‘Stories of Wrongful Conviction and Exoneration’
The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law’s Conviction Integrity Clinic will present “Injustice Revealed: Stories of Wrongful Conviction and Exoneration,” a candid discussion on wrongful convictions, on Wednesday, October 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Room 226 at Detroit Mercy Law, 651 E. Jefferson Ave. in Detroit.
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Gilbert King will discuss his book, “Bone Valley: A True Story of Injustice and Redemption in the Heart of Florida.” Michigan exonerees will also share their personal experiences with wrongful conviction, incarceration and exoneration.
Together, the panel will explore the human cost of injustice and the critical role that lawyers and communities play in advancing justice. A reception will follow in the atrium.
Presented as part of the University of Detroit Mercy’s 150th anniversary celebration, this discussion reflects the university’s commitment to service, justice and community engagement while highlighting how persistence in the pursuit of truth can help bring wrongful convictions to light.
