Firm establishes scholarship at law school honoring Richard D. Weber

Kerr, Russell, and Weber PLC is pleased to announce the creation of the Richard D. Weber Memorial Endowed Scholarship at Wayne State University Law School.

The fund honors named firm member and 1965 Wayne Law alumnus Richard D. (“Dick”) Weber, who passed away June 24, 2025 following 42 years of service as an attorney in the Detroit community.

“Dick Weber’s distinguished legal career was rooted in a profound commitment to the City of Detroit, its institutions, and its people,” said Daniel Schulte, a member of Kerr, Russell, and Weber’s Executive Committee and Weber’s longtime colleague. “As a proud graduate of Wayne State University Law School, Dick understood firsthand the opportunities that higher education can create and the responsibility that accompanies professional success. Through this scholarship, we hope to honor Dick’s legacy by helping talented students overcome financial barriers and pursue the same path of professional excellence and community service that defined his career.”

The scholarship, which is fully endowed by the firm, will provide annual awards to full-time Wayne Law students who are first-generation college graduates, are in good academic standing, and demonstrate financial need. Recognizing both Weber and the firm’s longstanding commitment to serving the Detroit community (Kerr, Russell, and Weber has been headquartered in Detroit for 151 years, and more than two dozen of the firm’s current attorneys are Wayne Law graduates), preference will be given to students whose residence was in the City of Detroit when they graduated high school or who were eligible for a Pell Grant during their undergraduate studies.

“This scholarship reflects both Dick’s enduring connection to Wayne Law and our firm’s commitment to supporting talented students who aspire to serve and strengthen our community,” Schulte said. 

Association hosts 2026 Business Partner Expo 

The Metropolitan Detroit Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators is gearing up for its 2026 Business Partner Expo.  The “The Nightmare Before Christmas”-themed event will take place Thursday, October 22, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Detroit Fleat, 1820 Nine Mile Road in Ferndale.

ALA’s biggest event of the year is filled with food, drinks and raffles.  Business partners are free to get creative and decorate tables in the theme of “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”  Dressing up is encouraged, but certainly not mandatory.
