‘Sentencing Guidelines Part Three’ offered online Nov. 18
The Criminal Defense Association of Michigan will present the webinar “Sentencing Guidelines Part Two: Beyond the Basics” on Wednesday, November 18, from 2 to 3 p.m. via Zoom.
This one-hour session is for those who are more comfortable with guidelines scoring and are looking for training on more advanced topics. This session will cover more challenging guidelines issues such as Dupree and Beck challenges, how out of state prior convictions affect guidelines, how to score OVs 11, 12, and 13, and more. A good understanding of the guidelines or attendance at part two is recommended.
Attendees will:
• Understand how non-scorable misdemeanors interact with the 10-year gap
• Learn how to categorize and score out of state priors
• Apply People v. Dupree to OVs 1 and 2 and see how the same reasoning can be extended to other OVs.
• Develop a clear approach to scoring OVs 11, 12, and 13
Presenting at the webinar will be Kristin LaVoy who rejoined SADO in February 2026 as the training director. Before then, she spent nearly five years training trial defenders in Wayne County as the training director at Neighborhood Defender Service of Detroit and then at the Wayne County Indigent Defense Services Department.
Cost for the webinar is $40 for CDAM members and $50 for non-members. To register, visit https://cdam.wildapricot.org.
