The State Bar of Michigan uses an online system to make license renewals easy and convenient. License renewals, including mandatory disclosures and payment of fees, must be completed by November 30, 2026, to avoid a $50 late fee.
Members can renew alicense, or check the status of arenewal, at michbar.org/MemberArea.
SBM warns that the U.S. Postal Service no longer postmarks mail the day it is sent (unless takeen it inside to a service counter and specifically request a same-day postmark). The $50 late fee will be assessed on all payments not received or postmarked by the post office by 11:59 p.m. November 30, 2026 — regardless of the day it was mailed. The State Bar of Michigan recommends online payment to ensure payment is received on time. Members can pay online using a check at no additional cost.
All active and inactive Michigan attorneys have been emailed information about their license renewal and will continue to receive reminder emails throughout the renewal season until their license renewal is complete. Emeritus attorneys no longer are required to renew their license.
The new Bar year began on October 1, 2026.
