Butterfly garden dedicated in memory of attorney

The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy recently dedicated the Gabriel Richard Park Butterfly Garden in the memory of David K. Page, a Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP partner who passed away on July 1, 2014. Page was one of the primary visionaries behind the formation of the Conservancy, a non-profit organization launched in 2003 by three key partners, the City of Detroit, General Motors and the Kresge Foundation. Page was extremely passionate about the mission of the Conservancy to develop public access to Detroit's riverfront and to serve as an anchor for economic development. He served as the Conservancy's vice chair since its inception and as chair of the Finance and Advancement committees. Page helped raise millions of dollars toward the construction, operations and maintenance of the Detroit RiverWalk, which opened in 2007, and the Dequindre Cut in 2009. His contributions to the organization and to the success of the riverfront revitalization project have been immeasurable. Page was very proud to see the transformation of the riverfront from broken sidewalks and streets, cement silos and vacant industrial buildings to a picture-perfect walkway of parks and gardens, as well as a great opportunity for economic development. Today, the Detroit riverfront attracts millions of visitors each year. Page was a member of the firm's Corporate Department. His legal practice at Honigman focused on corporate transactions, including corporate governance, financing, acquisitions, sales and mergers, public offerings and private placements. His personal list of volunteer work with charitable organizations is extensive. Along with leadership roles at many area nonprofit organizations, he was the chair of the Children's Hospital of Michigan Foundation board of trustees, and a trustee or director on the boards of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, the Detroit Zoological Society, City Year Detroit and both The Jewish Fund and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit (previously serving as president of each).
