Born in 1944 in Detroit to Ivan and Ruth Meisner, Robert graduated from Mumford High School in Detroit, earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan, and obtained his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.
Following in the footsteps of his father and uncle, Meisner was proud to be a lawyer. He zealously represented his clients for more than 55 years, founding a successful law practice in Bingham Farms. Meisner represented hundreds of clients, including the United Condominium Owners of Michigan (UCOM), for more than 50 years since its inception in 1974.
He was also an educator, teaching at two law schools and conducting numerous seminars, webinars, and speaking engagements throughout Michigan and nationally. Meisner hosted the radio show “The Law of the Land,” authored the books “Condo Living” and “Condo Living 2,” wrote many newspaper columns and articles, and co-drafted the 1978 Michigan Condominium Act.
Meisner’s accolades include being named a Fellow and inductee in the College of Community Association Lawyers at the Community Associations Institute, a five-time Michigan Super Lawyer, being honored as one of the 2014 Leaders in the Law by Michigan Lawyers Weekly, selected three times as a Top Metro Detroit Lawyer, a 50th Golden Anniversary Honoree with the State Bar of Michigan, and recipient of the Hall of Fame Award from Michigan Lawyers Weekly.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Meisner was an ardent supporter of Michigan Wolverines football, attending games both at home and away. He also loved U of M basketball, Detroit Tigers, Lions football, Rose Bowl, Red Wings games, and Pistons games. An avid runner and handball player, Meisner’s enthusiasm for sports was boundless.
Meisner loved to travel, immersing himself in different cultures, cuisines, breathtaking landscapes, architecture, and art. He had a great sense of humor, a quick wit, and a love for fine cigars. He enjoyed great food, stone crabs, boating, or simply relaxing by the pool with a good book. His favorite destination was Italy.
A knowledgeable train enthusiast, Meisner served as a council member of the Michigan Rail Passengers Association, working to improve rail access in Michigan. He enjoyed traveling by train throughout Europe and the United States and took pleasure in creating his own model train set and village at home.
Meisner is survived by his wife, Anita L. Mitton; his son, Derek M. Meisner (Lara), and grandchildren Zachary and Ellie; his son, Randall S. Meisner (Kelly), and grandchildren Olivia, Samantha, and Maxwell; his stepchildren, Jessica Miles (Sterling) and JD Mitton (Lindsay); his step-grandchild, Lyndon; M.
