ABA women trailblazers project releases oral history of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

The American Bar Association Women Trailblazers in the Law Project announced on Thursday the release of the oral history of U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second woman to be appointed to the Supreme Court.

Justice Ginsburg’s oral history memorializes her personal and professional life in her own words, preserving her experiences, observations and legacy for future generations. Consistent with her wishes, the oral history is being released today, the fifth anniversary of her death.

The oral history consists of eight in-depth interviews with Justice Ginsburg conducted between 1995 and 2014 by Maeva Marcus, a historian with George Washington University Law School, on behalf of the Historical Society of the District of Columbia Circuit.

Justice Ginsburg donated the oral history to the ABA Women Trailblazers Project sponsored by the ABA Senior Lawyers Division. The project has collected detailed oral histories of more than 100 women pioneers in the legal profession nationwide who have made important contributions to the law and opened opportunities for other women. Stanford Law School’s Robert Crown Law Library, in an agreement with the ABA, has preserved and archived the ABA Women Trailblazers Project’s oral history collection and created a website to host and promote the collection. Justice Ginsburg’s oral history is now available on that website.

ALA hosts art-themed Business Partner Expo

The Metropolitan Detroit Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators is gearing up for its 2025 Business Partner Expo. The art-themed event will take place Thursday, October 16, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Ave. in Detroit.

ALA’s biggest event of the year is filled with food, drinks and raffles. Business partners are free to get creative and decorate tables in the theme of art. Dressing up is encouraged, but certainly not mandatory. Props such as smoke/fog machines, lights, etc. are not allowed, as they may damage the art in the DIA.

ALA will also be collecting donations for Friends of Foster Kids, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth in the foster care system. Though based in Macomb County, the organization serves children in Macomb, Oakland, Wayne County, and beyond. Since 2008, it has provided holiday gifts, high school graduation packages, essential items, and year-round programs that promote stability, independence, and hope.
